AbstractMaximizing GIS Architectures for Infrastructure Management Systems Track: State and Local Government Author(s): William Pickens, Shawn Shelton As technologies and the capabilities of GIS have advanced, Jefferson County, Alabama considers how it can best utilize these expansions in an attempt to streamline processes and maximize the investment made into GIS. From guardrail and bridge location to accident tracking to document management, local governments need to collect and manage more data about their infrastructure than ever before. Multiple departments within Jefferson County are now utilizing GIS in many different capacities, each working closely with Jefferson County’s Information Technology department to manage, maintain, and direct their efforts in this field. This presentation will illustrate how Jefferson County’s Roads and Transportation Department uses different Esri architectures to collect field data with ArcPad, analyze and edit data with ArcGIS Desktop, and provide access to the data via the web with ArcGIS Server in the development of its Roads Infrastructure Management System (RIMS).
