A GIS workflow management system was implemented for City of Los Angeles, Department of City Planning (LADCP) using and customizing Esri’s Job Tracking Extension (JTX).

The goal of implementing and customizing JTX was to ease user and version management, manage job workflows, improve and accelerate QA/QC of edits and maintain a full history of each database edit. These goals have been largely attained. The job management has been easy as the jobs can be searched and retrieved on-line and could be assigned and reassigned. The customization of out-of the box JTX was done primarily by putting the interaction placed within ArcMap. Few additional tools were integrated along with this implementation like job maintenance form, version power tool, QC tools and batch reconcile and post tool.

Further enhancements are being thought as to extend JTX beyond GIS component by linking JTX to permit tracking and document management system.
