Abstract

Preparing Survey Tender Specifications for Project GIS Database Outcomes
Track: Surveying
Author(s): Ian Harper

The writer is an experienced cadastral surveyor who has been using the Cadastral Editor Process to build desktop survey data models for infrastructure projects and county cadastral databases in Australia.

The CE technology produces a survey database of field measurements, geodetic survey control and the spatial outcome of surveyor’s boundary determinations. Project management is now looking to ensure the process benefits are maximized by specifying its use in the documentation for project survey specifications.

The presentation will discuss the varied relationships between project surveyors, non survey project managers, GIS managers and the outcomes each group are seeking.

A major outcome has been that informed surveyors are recognizing that their data (and its precision) is entered and maintained as survey data in the project database (even though it is called a GIS database).

Those experiences are from projects that include an urban rail upgrade (10km), freeway construction (30km) and pipeline (100km).
