Oakland County, MI RideShare Program

With the continual inflation of gas prices, Oakland County, MI is providing employees an opportunity to participate in a RideShare program. Part of the larger OaklandSaves (oaklandsaves.com) initiative the RideShare program allows County employees to use an interactive map to find other employees who live nearby or along their routes to work. By logging on to a secure web application designed specifically for this program, employees can enter their Employee ID to opt-in to the program.
RideShare was built using ArcGIS Desktop and Server 9.3 with custom development utilizing the JavaScript API. Addresses were harvested from Oakland County’s human resources management system and geo-coded against County and regional data.
RideShare represents an example of enterprise GIS technology being utilized to proactively provide County employees with measures to reduce their costs in an uncertain economic environment. It also represents innovative and technologically intelligent human resource management.
