Regional Analysis of Agriculture with Satellite Imagery

Regional assessments of agriculture are critical for various types of economic, security, and humanitarian decision making. The data for such decision making needs to be objective, timely, and reliable.
An analytical system in support of regional assessments of crop conditions, planted areas, and forecasts of crop yield and production will be presented. The system relies on current and historical satellite imagery and multiple lines of evidence in agricultural analysis. Particular attention will be given to discussing the benefits and necessity of reliance on multi-resolution current and historical imagery in support of regional agricultural assessments. This system is currently utilized by the USDA FAS in conjunction with the NGA for international agricultural analysis.
