Enhanced Flightline Security System for Marine Corps Force Protection
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Mark Jansen, Richard Leeson

SPAWAR conducts force protection projects for the Marine Corps to enhance installation security including flightline surveillance systems for improved airfield operations. The flightline surveillance system is called the Enhanced Tactical Automation Security System (ETASS) and will be used with SPAWAR’s Marine Corps Electronic Security Systems (MCESS) currently deployed at approximately 10 Marine Corps sites. ETASS provides a common operational installation picture for complex sensor security and immediate visual assessment. ETASS integrates MCESS sensor and surveillance systems, early warning systems, and mass notification systems to augment personnel resources in permanently secured areas. ETASS enhances security along the flightlines and taxiways, storage areas, building exteriors, closed perimeters, and installation borders. ETASS allows expansion of the security perimeter through integration of ground-based radar systems, long-range thermal imagers, and unmanned aerial vehicles for more comprehensive threat security assessment. ETASS enables synchronized data dissemination to peer and higher echelon systems for more-effective decision making.
