Track: Health and Human Services
Author(s): David Padgett, Talia McCray, Linda Loubert, Nekya Young, Kendra Smith

Panelists' presentations cover examples of GIS applied in the spatial analysis of inequality in U.S. cities. Homeless populations are tracked in support of municipalities' efforts to provide adequate services in places with unequal access to housing. Barriers to transportation access for low-income and people of color are examined in an effort to set policy for equitable availability of public transit. Driving forces behind disparities in educational opportunities are explored using geospatial technology. Innovative approaches for mitigating urban inequalities are shared, including community-based mapping methods.
