AbstractGIS-LIDAR Analysis Results at Valenciano Dam and Reservoir, Juncos, PR Track: Environmental Management Author(s): Eldris Ferrer GIS-Airborne LiDAR Analysis supported several environmental studies at Valenciano Dam and Reservoir, a Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) project, to supply water to the island East Central region. Construction of a raw water storage reservoir (an on-stream dam within the Valenciano River), regional water treatment plant, water storage tanks, booster pump stations, and water transmission lines, required an Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate environmental impact on project area Terrestrial/Aquatic Flora and Fauna, that included Guajón (Eleutherodactylus cooki) habitat relocation, Land Use photointerpretation for Sanitary Survey, Hydrologic Analysis of Watersheds, stream network extraction from DEMs based on LIDAR data for Joint Application Permit, and GIS Tools applications in environmental assessment and inventory. Our goals were to demonstrate the feasibility of producing analysis and environmental maps from high resolution LIDAR data in an effort to facilitate natural resource decision making, analysis and management.
