AbstractModeling Species Habitat in the National Forests of Southwest Idaho Track: Modeling Author(s): Ryan Heaslip, Chans O'Brien, Nathaniel Morton With habitat use parameters specified by the U.S. Forest Service, Modelbuilder was utilized to automate the selections from forested vegetation data collected from Landsat in the early 1990s and non-forested data from 2000 LANDFIRE for the Boise, Payette, and Sawtooth National Forests. Three primary habitat layers were produced: Source Habitat Capacity, Historic Source Habitat, and Current Source Habitat. After the habitats were produced, summaries were produced for each 5th level watershed to determine whether habitats were increasing, decreasing or stable. These data sets were further processed in Modelbuilder to identify areas of restoration concern and to examine and summarize the effects of various man-made entities. Maps showing theses analyses were produced for a total of 18 species using ArcGIS. Another set of species data will be produced using the same models with a new vegetation map layer derived from imagery collected in 2008 to examine the temporal change in habitats.
