Abstract

Lebanon Fire District Goes Digital with In-Vehicle Mapping Application
Track: Emergency Medical Services/Fire
Author(s): Brent Gaskey

Frustrated with the expense and labor intensive map book maintenance and update process, Lebanon Fire District began looking for a digital alternative. The product search led to a local software company developing a solution based on ArcGIS Runtime Engine. The resulting mapping application is simple to use while providing much additional tactical information. The application uses local GIS data and can be updated whenever new data is available. Data is stored on the hard drive so that internet or server connection is not required. Location searches are fast with auto-complete data entry and minimal key strokes. Large touch screen buttons allow easy use of the map navigation and feature tools in dark, moving vehicles. GPS is utilized to display the vehicle’s location on the map. The solution is well-received by Firefighter/EMT users. It is now used by neighboring fire districts sharing regional map data to support mutual aid calls.
