GIS is the basic system to provide all geographical meteorological and oceanographical information for a Relevant Environmental Picture (REP) in joint operations. Furthermore the GIS technology is seen as a tool to implement knowledge base functions. Situational awareness functions are used as add-on to approach a Common Relevant Operational Picture (CROP).
This presentation gives a conceptional overview of the implementation of GIS in the HQ (DEU) Response Forces Operations Command (RFOC) and provides information on the way ahead for ArcGIS technology within the Headquarters.
