Abstract![]() Recent Progress in GIS and Disaster Management in Japan Track: Disaster Management and Emergency Response Author(s): Go URAKAWA A series of practical and effective systems for disaster response, including an Emergency Map Center and an application to build Victims� Database, have been developed since the 2007 Niigataken Chuetsu-oki Earthquake. This was made possible by tightly integrating technology with disaster management. The expectations toward GIS in disaster management that was strongly hoped for during the 1995 Hanshin-Awaji Great Earthquake expectation is finally being realized and established in Japan.
