The core objective of a time-series management (TSM) suite is to manage information which is variable in time. The information which is stored in “time-series” is usually being measured or observed via various kinds of sensors. Key observations in hydrology (water level, discharge, precipitation, quality) come from distinct points (e.g. river gauges) or via raster-based approaches (e.g. NEXRAD images). Because observations occur often (e.g. every 5min) it is important to automate procedures and analysis workflows whilst effectively managing the increasing archive. KISTERS TSM system covers all these data types and processes and has often been implemented as flood or river basin management system. The integration with ArcGIS provides a spatial perspective on the information. Both systems together provide the foundation for a scalable software infrastructure which has been implemented many times and is available off-the-shelf.
