AbstractCity of Irvine's GHG GIS Protocol Track: Climate Change Author(s): Chandra Krout The City of Irvine has built a national reputation for its commitments to sustainability, energy conservation and green building. With the adoption of AB-32 and SB-375, the State of California is now on the leading edge of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and we believe the City of Irvine is on the leading edge of establishing a comprehensive sustainability model that will significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This effort was accomplished by using the City's existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in partnership with the utilities so that GHG emissions can be calculated, updated and monitored as individual development projects occur throughout the City in the future. In this way, it will assist with future utility system planning, calculating the potential energy and energy service demands from new developments, and identifying opportunities for the most cost-effective energy use reduction programs and policies.
