The Arc Hydro Groundwater Data Model and Tools
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Norm Jones, Gil Strassberg, David Maidment

The Arc Hydro Groundwater data model is a geodatabase design for representing multi-dimensional groundwater data. The data model supports representations of different types of groundwater datasets including aquifer maps, well databases, geologic maps, 3D representations of boreholes, cross sections, hydrostratigraphy, temporal information, and data from simulation models. The data model is compatible with the Arc Hydro surface water data model. The data model provides a standardized representation of ground water systems within a spatial database and provides a template for GIS users to analyze, store, share, document, and distribute commonly-used spatial and temporal ground water datasets. A suite of tools (Groundwater Analyst, Subsurface Analyst, and MODFLOW Analyst) has been developed for importing, creating, and managing Arc Hydro Groundwater data.
