Strategic Site Selection for Non-profit Community Health Centers

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), AltaMed's business development and growth must meet both mission-driven and financial viability goals. The purpose of FQHCs is to increase access for uninsured and under-insured individuals and families but our financial viability mandates that we increase the number of managed care patients that are served by our clinics. Since the market for managed care patients has become more competitive and resources to fund projects are limited, the use of analysis tools such as GIS is effective to identify high potential market areas. Using Demographic, Population Projection, Managed Care Medicaid Enrollment, and other data, GIS Analysis enables Altamed to identify areas that meet both mission-driven and financial viability goals.



This session will discuss the steps that were taken to develop this business development market area assessment and how it is incorporated into AltaMed’s growth efforts.
