Implementing an Aviation Data Model Compliant to FAA Standards
Track: Transportation
Author(s): David Wright, Gwen Grant

The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Office of Airport Engineering and National Planning Division are implementing a national airport Geographic Information System (A-GIS) and electronic Airport Layout Plan (eALP) program. As a part of this program, the FAA has developed specifications for survey control, aerial photography and GIS data should be developed. All U.S. landing facilities will be required to submit deliverables that comply with these specifications for federal funded projects such as master plan and ALP updates, airfield construction projects and obstruction surveys.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA) has been working with Esri to develop an aviation data model that will be compliant with the FAA’s most recent GIS data standards, Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5300-18B.

This session will demonstrate the process by which H-JAIA developed its aviation data model, AC 150/5300-18B compliancy procedures; data model review; implementation process of the data model in Esri’s ArcGIS software.
