Integrating GIS within the Finance Department at PETCO Animal Supplies

New store sites constitute a significant capital commitment for growing retailers. Concerns about the allocation of resources have led to spatial analysis and the implementation of GIS being driven by PETCO’s Finance department. We will discuss the historical process for site selection at PETCO and the increasing involvement of the Finance department over time. We will cover the choice of ArcGIS Business Analyst and some of the obstacles we have faced supporting site selection analysis. Our modeling approach, assessing model accuracy, integrating our work with internal processes, and our vision for the future will also be discussed.
