Flex and Map Caching: A Combination for Faster Web Maps

When it came time migrate from the ArcIMS environment to ArcGIS Server, the GIS user base at the City of Phoenix's Street Transportation Department wanted web mapping applications that performed at the standard set by today's popular commercial web maps. In order to acheive this performance, a combination of map caching and applications built with the ArcGIS Server API for Adobe Flex resulted in success.
This presentation will discuss the steps the Street Transportation Department took to arrive at the final goal, including planning for caching, designing map services, caching methods, application development, and deployment.
