AbstractPractical GIS Data Dissemination: A Decade of Lessons LearnedTrack: Metadata and Data Publishing Author The West Virginia GIS Technical Center has been developing and disseminating publically available GIS data for a decade. Technology evolution of software and hardware have ushered in new challenges and opportunities for data delivery systems. Esri's GIS software has often featured a starring role in both the innovation of these techniques and the subsequent discovery of new challenges. The WV GIS Technical Center has been on the forefront of each of these technology changes, trying to incorporate the best aspects, and filter out the worst, of each. This presentation will take a historical perspective of spatial data delivery mechanisms, practices, and initiatives as seen through the experience of the WV GIS Technical Center's last ten years in the field. It will present best practices and pitfalls to avoid as learned through dynamic, sometimes painful, firsthand experience.
