AbstractHow GIS enhances the transformation of a University CampusTrack: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Author GIS is providing a key tool in transforming Bowling Green State University into a 21st century living and learning community in an increasingly competitive higher education environment. The situation demanded the improvement of the quality of information which provided a bridge for the regeneration of the campus. In 2007, detailed GIS utility maps of the campus were created as part of an Infrastructure Master Plan Study. The information that was dispersed throughout thousands of drawings is now in one easy-to-access location. Since then, an aggressive plan has been implemented to transform the campus environment including buildings, utilities, and landscape. GIS, along with other tools such as Cad, Google Earth, Sketchup, BIM, and OnBase have provided enhanced visualization for presenting the plan to University Administrators, and speeding up the decision making process. This has resulted in better quality planning, more sustainable designs, shortened timelines, and a more knowledgeable project team.
