GIS-Based Monitoring Techniques for RMV Habitat Reserve Lands
Track: Environmental Management
Authors: Mark McGinnis, Laura Eisenberg

This Initial Management Action Plan (IMAP) has been prepared by Rancho Mission Viejo (RMV), a Landowner in the Southern Subregion Habitat Conservation Plan (Southern HCP) and Permittee under the San Juan Creek/Western San Mateo Creek Special Area Management Plan (SAMP). This presentation will discuss the Adaptive Management and Monitoring Program (AMP) component of the Habitat Reserve Management and Monitoring Program (HRMP).

GIS-based tools and techniques will be described for maintaining data, conducting analysis and reporting results. Specifically, vegetation communities, associated Covered Species and candidate focal species for monitoring and management; including systematic and stratified random selection of monitoring locations at the landscape level, proposed pilot studies to test field protocols, survey methods, and collection (GPS), and site- and species-specific monitoring. A discussion of GIS Spatially Balanced Sampling (SBS) in monitoring approaches and use of the Reversed Randomized Quadrant-Recursive Raster (RRQRR) toolbox for ArcGIS will be included.
