Enhancing 3D Capabilities for Warfighters through Joint Enterprise Solutions
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Heidi Santiago

Soldiers of today have a very different battlefield to visualize. Urban warfare and quick decision making have now become the typical requirement for the modern-day Soldier. Filling the visualization gaps for better decision making is a priority for all services within the military community. 3-Dimensional geospatial capabilities fill this requirement. Lack of 3-D availability due to such military challenges as limited accessibility, data processing times outside of the warfighters decision cycle, and sparse exploitation tools on the front lines limit the warfighters exposure to 3-D scene visualization despite combat-proven value and demand.

The Operational 3D (Op3D) Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration (JCTD) is a joint, interagency-sponsored program working to solve some of the shortfalls the warfighter faces. The objective of the Op3D JCTD is to develop and transition capabilities to quickly discover, manage, generate, exploit, disseminate and accurately update 3-D GEOINT data from multiple collection systems to the warfighter.
