CommunityViz software was used in Massachusetts to develop a model of future growth in the City of Malden and to create a 3D visualization of Weymouth Landing. Scenario 360 was used in Malden using a model which incorporated information about zoning, parcel boundaries, existing development, and environmental constraints to estimate the development potential under the current zoning and three alternative zoning scenarios. Scenarios were compared using a variety of indicators, including number and type of housing units, access to transit, and neighborhood impacts. In Weymouth Landing, CommunityViz's Scenario 3D was used to create scenarios visualizing the downtown area as it currently is, whith smart growth buildings, and with a proposed Walgreens downtown, to get community feedback in a public meeting. MAPC developed many custom strategies and work-arounds for using Community Viz in conjunction with ArcGIS to create quick, reliable visualization outputs and charts for presentations in both cases.
