Abstract

Public Works Department's CMMS Waits for the "Perfect Storm"
Track: Public Works
Authors: Rocky Agbunag

St. Johns County, FL in recent years has been spared by Mother Nature's wrath. But it's still vulnerable to a "Perfect Storm." There have been situations, such as the 100 year flood and occasional tropical storms that have put the Public Works Department's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to a test. The County's CMMS, along with its Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), were used to help manage operations and response to these types of storms, as well as handling FEMA reporting. Yet another kind of storm has been brewing, with the current economic down turn and the subsequent cross departmental budget cuts. Again, the County's CMMS, with its GIS-centric approach and performance based-budgeting tool will test how the department will maintain its level of service and avoid staff layoffs. This presentation will illustrate the County's use of its GIS-centric CMMS to prepare for the "Perfect Storm."
