Abstract

Mapping the Way to Better Health Care
Track: Health and Human Services
Authors: Kevin Fritz, Stephen Notaro

As the number of uninsured Americans continues to rise, free clinics serve as the foundation in providing primary care for low income and uninsured individuals. Our research and presentation will focus on the characteristics and utilization of health services among patients at free health clinics that serve the Champaign, Illinois metropolitan area. Our current study includes producing a geographical information systems map of the client's place of residence in the community in relation to the free clinic. The team collected medical record data from a free clinic, imported (geocoded) attributes for analysis, and is currently mapping the findings. We are primarily using Kernel density and Euclidean distance for analysis, but will be branching out to incorporate other extensions (network analyst) and programs in the near future. By comparing these outcomes to the general population in the county and will summarize interventions to propose to the community.
