AbstractUsing GIS to Analyze Capital Improvements ProjectsTrack: Public Works Author The City of Columbus has implemented a new Project Management Information System (PMIS) that tracks CIP projects. In order to view CIP activities and conflicts, the City created an ArcGIS Server application relating CIP information from PMIS to geometric features in ArcSDE. This live, web-based application gave City staff the capability to directly view, edit and report CIP information based on its geographic location. Custom tools were created to search by categories such as project managers as well as locations such as neighborhoods and planning areas. Users have the ability to filter projects by project status, stage and phase. This application also allowed users to detect conflicts between multiple CIP projects by geographic location and project dates. This city-wide initiative truly integrated City departments in communicating CIP activities in an enterprise manner for more efficient decision making. This application has become the basis for other applications throughout the City.
