Abstract

South Carolina DHEC Environmental and Public Health Web GIS
Track: Health and Human Services
Authors: Jared Shoultz

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is currently developing new websites and migrating existing ArcIMS enabled websites to ArcGIS Server using Web 2.0 technologies to enhance existing functionality. This process involves adding additional content and contextual information and creating a more enjoyable user experience to entice the end-user to spend more time on public health focused websites. Simplified "wizard-driven" user interfaces are being deployed with GIS output screens that require little or no GIS experience or expertise. Additional capabilities are being added for the advanced user to interact with the data from within the map interface once a specified geography has been established. This presentation will cover current production ArcGIS Server websites and applications with embedded server GIS capabilities. Topics covered will be Flex, Environmental and Public Health Tracking, and the South Carolina Community Assessment Network (SCAN) Web-based Data Query System (WDQS).
