Spatial Land-Use/Land-Cover Dynamics in Goa, India

Ever increasing demand for agricultural space and resources as a result of increasing population has lead to rapid changes in the land cover of most of the regions of India, including Goa. Understanding the spatial dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC)change has been a challenge for the geospatial scientists.
Agent based change model was developed to understand the LULC dynamics in Goa. In this model user driven drivers characterization is possible. Here the drivers were Population density, terrain (elevation and slope) and rainfall. Using multiple regression method the impact of the drivers were calibrated and fed into the model. The projected land use and land cover change scenario of 2006 was compared with the LULC map or 2006 generated using IRS- P6 LISS-III data. The projected scenario showed a Kappa accuracy of more than 83%.
