Abstract

Implementing a Web-based Equipment Inventory Map for Marine Corps Force Protection
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Mark Jansen, Richard Leeson

SPAWAR conducts many force protection projects for the Marine Corps to enhance installation security which includes installing security cameras, intrusion detectors, and physical access control systems. The installed security system equipment is currently tracked in a non-spatial database called the Electronic Security Systems Information Management System (ESSIMS). ESSIMS stores the equipment inventory and tracks equipment status. The ESSIMS database cannot currently be viewed through a common installation map. SPAWAR is designing a web-based mapping application to allow project engineers, planners, and Marine Corps personnel interactive access to the ESSIMS database information while viewing critical Marine Corps installation infrastructure. The Web-based mapping application will be implemented using ArcGIS Server incorporating AutoCAD and ArcGIS local installation data. This implementation will allow users and decision makers to view all equipment in a building, zoom to specific components, and run queries against the database resulting in more effective planning, engineering, and maintenance operations.
