Abstract

Statistical Analysis of Redlands Crime over the Past 20 Years
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Authors: Sarah Drallos-Kopecky

The City of Redlands crime rate has increased over the past 20 years, which has led to a need for a better understanding of why this is happening. In order to look at this problem in an effective and interactive manner, the City and law enforcement agencies would like to incorporate a web application that shows the crime densities over the past 20 years. To create this user friendly application, a density model will be developed to analyze and visualize the historical crime data. Once the maps are created in the GIS, adobe flash will be used to animate the results visually, which will show a story of crime over the past 20 years. This will allow law enforcement and the City of Redlands to better understand why certain crimes are happening in certain places. Ultimately it will have significant implication for helping solve future crime problems.
