Abstract

EPA's GeoData Gateway: A Central Access Point for Geospatial Resources
Track: Metadata and Data Publishing
Authors: Michelle Torreano

The U.S. EPA has developed a geospatial metadata portal, the GeoData Gateway (GDG), to provide a central access point for EPA's geospatial resources. Geospatial metadata producers across the EPA's regional and program offices contribute metadata to the GDG and manage the information in the central catalog. These metadata are then made available to internal and external users through a number of access points, including the GDG's search and browse capabilities, as well as other interfaces (e.g., REST, CS-W, GDG search widget) that allow individuals to embed GDG components into their own applications. The GDG has recently been released to the general public, providing public users with access to a number of features that can help them find key geospatial data, applications, and services made available by EPA. The GDG is a key component of EPA's efforts to provide transparent access to geospatial resources stored across the agency.
