AMAFCA FlexViewer - Using RIAs for GIS Web Mapping
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water
Authors: Kevin Troutman, Robert Royall

The Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA) is a flood control agency for the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. As a small agency, most GIS development has been geared toward producing small exhibits using ArcMap rather than as an agency-wide integrated tool available to all AMAFCA staff. AMAFCA has recently begun an effort to consolidate and catalogue its GIS data in a centralized ArcGIS Server.

Access to AMAFCA's GIS data is provided by a web application developed using the ArcGIS Flex API. The foundation for the application is the Esri FlexViewer project, which provides a basic GIS web development platform. Several custom widgets with specialized functionality have been developed for the application as modular components that "plug in" to the FlexViewer framework. The application provides a speedy, user friendly interface for use by the general public, as well as integrating document distribution, facility inventory, land management, and environmental compliance.
