A collaborative enterprise GIS solution of the Australian Sugar Industry
Track: Agriculture
Authors: Raymond De Lai, Gareck Packer, Mike Sefton

Enterprise GIS, and the benefits it brings, are perfectly suited to a multi-faceted collaborative GIS. The Herbert Resource Information Centre (HRIC) is a highly successful and awarded strategic partnership established between six organisations to deliver spatial information services in North Queensland, Australia. The HRIC has successfully implemented a world-class Enterprise GIS solution based around Esri ArcGIS Server architecture. The HRIC Enterprise GIS provides access to real-time spatial information critical to the business operations of the sugar industry through a web portal. This is unique as it is a whole-of-community solution that goes over organisational boundaries. This includes the interfacing of business systems of organisations involved in the growing, harvesting, transporting and crushing of sugar cane, and also integration with local government and environmental management systems.

This paper will highlight the value agricultural communities can obtain from the collaborative development of an Enterprise GIS solution.
