AbstractDelineate river and groundwater protection area boundaries with GISTrack: Water Resources Author The rivers are one of the main sources of water supply for different usage like agriculture, domestic and industrial. Furthermore groundwater is the main source of fresh water in many countries. According to the recent climate changes and droughts in Middle East and also urban and rural development, it is important to conserve these resources. Population growth causes agriculture and industrial activities increase and put the rivers and groundwater in unsustainable situation and will damage the environmental ecosystems sustainability. In this research the methods to delineate protection area boundaries has been analyzed by using GIS tools to determine the vulnerability of the aquifer with DRASTIC method and also delineate the river protection area boundaries in Astaneh-Kochesfehan area. The social and economical impacts of performing these boundaries have been analyzed and at the end some suggestion presented to reduce the impacts.
