AbstractMobile GIS for Transmission Line Projection and Environmental RedliningTrack: Electric Utilities Author The projection of a new transmission line is a complex process that requires many divergent paths of communication. The ability to communicate a wide range of field notes to and from the engineers, surveyors, field crews and environmental specialists that participate in the routing of transmission lines is essential to reduce cost and project delays. To reduce communication errors, GO!Sync mobile GIS (TC Technology) was implemented in 2009 to transfer redline information among role players in a more efficient manner. Uploaded field notes are used to build more effective drawings, to illustrate key features along the proposed transmission route, and propose solutions for mitigating environmental problems. Project information collected during the preconstruction process can then be utilized to support maintenance crews throughout the lifecycle of the transmission line. This presentation will address, best practices, and lessons learned during the implementation of the Transmission Line Projection and Environmental Redlining project.
