AbstractUse of GIS in Support of Detailed Flood Modeling Track: Water Resources Author The Gilder Creek watershed is a rapidly developing 32 square mile area east of the City of Greenville, South Carolina. An increasing number of flooding complaints in the watershed necessitated that Greenville County construct highly detailed hydrologic and hydraulic models in order to determine existing problem areas and to use as a tool to project the impact of further development and capital improvement projects on flood conditions. GIS technology was instrumental during each phase of the project: data collection, development of modeling input, display of modeling results, and analysis of alternatives to reduce flooding conditions. Tools used include ArcGIS Desktop, 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst, ArcHydro, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-GeoHMS, and various custom macros and extensions.
