Track: Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water
Authors: Tracy Wamsley, Alex English, Nathaniel Davis

The City of Norfolk, VA Department of Utilities has worked for the past three years on a wholesale data conversion from a paper based record system to an Esri ArcSDE supported Enterprise GIS for both water and sewer infrastructure. The GIS is comprised of all features that make up the water and sewer networks including approximately 12,000 manholes, 40,000 water and sewer nodes, and 1,665 miles of pipe for gravity and force main sewer lines and water lines with an additional 25,194 customer service lines. Each of these features contains feature linked annotation to support printed records and maps developed using Esri compatible DS Map Book. The GIS is also integrated with the City's Hansen asset management system. The data is deployed across the City utilizing a Flex Viewer powered by ArcGIS Server, along with an ArcReader application for users unable to connect to the GIS server.
