AbstractDeveloping resource allocation strategies for high foreclosure areasTrack: State and Local Government Author The increase in mortgage foreclosures resulting from today's economic environment requires new strategies to understand and address the impact on local governments. Oakland County, Michigan has turned to GIS to help analyze foreclosure patterns. By integrating the County-wide Register of Deeds database with GIS, the County Planning and Economic Development Services Division is providing services that include maps, data, and GIS-based analysis that help Oakland County communities address the negative impacts of the mortgage foreclosure crisis in their community. Hot spot maps use spatial statistics to identify generalized areas of high or low incidents of foreclosure. Parcel maps show specific homes that have been in foreclosure allowing communities to monitor vacant homes or identify homes that may benefit from neighborhood stabilization programs. This presentation will demonstrate the criteria and methodology used to develop this analysis.
