Dasymetric modeling and access to medical services in Lima, Peru
Track: Health and Human Services
Authors: Jeff Wielki

The issue of access to hospitals for different socioeconomic populations is important for planning facilities which conform to social and geographic equality. This analysis uses a path distance method to find the distance urban populations in Lima, Peru are from hospital facilities. Dasymetric modeling was used to distribute the census populations to more realistic locations. Populations with closest access to these facilities are found in the higher socioeconomically classed areas in central Lima. A new hospital facility is proposed here in an area with demonstrated demand and although this is an effort towards creating equal access, there is still an imbalance present.
