Abstract

LANG provides interoperable Web-based KML Viewer through ArcGIS Server
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Mike Liotta, Katie Irwin

The Louisiana National Guard (LANG) developed a web GIS viewer to disseminate both its mission critical data and imagery. Powered by Esri's ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 and Image Server extension and built on the 9.3.1 web ADF, this Web viewer enables users to visualize map and image services, simultaneously interact with multiple coordinate systems, and print high-quality maps. A Live Feed tool was introduced that displays Network Links (KML/KMZ feeds) within a browser via ArcGIS Server as well. The ability to display Network Links via a Web browser was critical due to key live feeds being published outside the ArcGIS Server network. As a result National Guard staff could view identical map data typically available only through a desktop client in a standard web browser.
