AbstractMapping the Advancement of Safe Surgery Track: Health and Human Services Author The mission of the World Health Organization's Safe Surgery Saves Lives team is to improve the safety of surgical care around the world by ensuring adherence to proven standards through the distribution of a safe surgery checklist that hospitals endorse and implement. The Safe Surgery team approached the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University to create a web map displaying the global advancement of the checklist for use by the general public, hospitals, health organizations, and the Safe Surgery team. The resulting Surgical Safety Web Map accomplished these goals and allows the team to upload additional participating hospitals to the map. This presentation will detail the architecture of the map and chronicle this success story about a team of public health research professionals becoming empowered with geographic information, realizing its' utility, and incorporating the map into daily workflows as a means to better organize, communicate and distribute information.
