Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Authors: William Gribb, Scott Lieske, Scott Lieske, Philip Polzer

Generally, national historical trails follow a route on the natural landscape, the Lewis and Clark National Historical Trail (LCNHT) has two routes, the historic route of the explorers and an auto-route for vehicular travel. This project focuses on creating a detailed digital database of the auto-route; its signage, historic and cultural points-of-interest, interpretive sites, and images of these features. The auto-route spatial database provides not only the geographic location of each feature, but also attributes relating to condition and sign effectiveness. The geodatabase structure incorporates reference to and a data platform for over 10,000 images. The intent of this project is to inventory the auto-route and utilize spatial analysis to assess the effectiveness of signage for travelers and access to the multitude of points-of-interest.
