AbstractAccessing GIS for Emergency Response through an Innovative GIS PlatformTrack: Emergency Medical Services/Fire Author The initial goal of Project SAFER (Situational Awareness for Emergency Response) was to bring critical information about schools in the city to the hands of emergency responders using a GIS platform. The project was conceived in 2008 through a cooperative agreement between the City of Frisco IT/GIS, Police, Fire and the school district. A team was formed to standardize the school floor plans, obtain photographs, and incorporate school videos and Fire preplan data. Dispatch and Mobile mapping software was purchased and an ArcServer site developed to present GIS and AVL information to the EOC, Command Vehicle, Dispatchers, Police and Fire vehicles. IT also created a site to standardize data collection using SharePoint. All of this was accomplished over an 18 month period and involved integrating numerous existing databases and developing a seamless data access program. The next phase of the project will include commercial buildings in the city.
