Abstract

Stretching Your Budget and Enhancing Customer Service with E-GIS
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Authors: Vicky Haire, Chris Walls

Government agencies are always striving to find ways to stretch their budgets without cutting back on customer service. By creating an eGIS (enterprise GIS) website using Esri's ArcSDE platform and Flex technology, Clark County, Indiana was able to provide its citizens with a one-stop portal for viewing property information, tax bills, and sales disclosures, and for performing simple search tasks. The greatest advantage of an eGIS website is that government officials' edits and changes are automatically updated throughout the system, providing every agency with synchronized, equally up-to-date data. Clark County's eGIS website has increased efficiency among its staff members by streamlining communications and workflows. Since the deployment of the eGIS website and the introduction of free, live training on how to use it, the county has noted a substantial reduction in counter traffic and phone inquiries.
