AbstractIncreasing Transparency into Operations and ProjectsTrack: Public Works Author The City of Oakland increased transparency into Public Works operations and projects, by providing two web-based tools. One allows the public to see the maintenance history for an area that they define (e.g., near an address, in a City Council district, or in a Police Beat), by getting information from the City's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Internal staff can also use the tool to identify trends, such as what quality-of-life issues have been addressed in an area (e.g., graffiti, illegal dumping) by Public Works and coordinate efforts (e.g., with police). The other tool allows the public to see capital projects in an area that they define, and get information such as status, cost, and project manager. With both tools, results are displayed on a map and also available in a table that can be exported for further analysis.
