Track: Education
Authors: Trias Aditya

This paper addresses usability issues in participatory mapping and data analysis in urban neighborhood infrastructure planning by exploring user requirements and accomplishing use assessments. This paper attempts to answer why and how maps can be really useful in urban infrastructure planning and problem-solving. For this purpose, a scenario for usable and effective means for community-based urban neighborhood infrastructure planning and problem solving was developed. Three participatory mapping methods were tested in the study area. First method was the use of a paper map as the base to enable community members to express their problems' identification, their perspective and their suggested solutions. The second and third methods were the use of Mobile GIS and a web map to help community members to do the same as with the paper map. Government agency can then import community data into ArcGIS for analysis during the design and choice stages.
