AbstractThe Barrick Gold SDI—Any Data, Any Time, AnywhereTrack: Spatial Data Infrastructure Author In late 2007, Barrick Gold began their Spatial Data Infrastructure implementation, to make all our spatial data available to all our staff globally. We have established Regional SDI nodes in Santiago, Salt Lake City, Tanzania and Perth. Each provides access to our global data catalog via the GPT. Barrick allows a mixed GIS environment on the desktop, with both Esri and MapInfo clients, but chose Esri technology for data storage, catalog creation and data search and delivery, using ArcGIS Server, the Portal Toolkit and SQL Server. Supporting two desktop clients was a significant complication, but was a mandated requirement of the initiative. This talk will focus on the Esri component of our SDI implementation. The core of our SDI is metadata, and we have established a core set of metadata attributes and developed a custom metadata editor and other tools that help us capture, document and catalog our data.
