AbstractGIS in the Law Enforcement Community:Geospatially Enabling Crime DataTrack: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author We will highlight several examples of how we have successfully utilized GIS in the Intel Department of our field division. Mapping examples include: 1.Visualization and analyzing crime data in our cases. 2.Weapon recovery data extracted from the Firearms Trace System (an Oracle database). Then data is displayed and analyzed within ArcGIS. 3.Utilized in Arson cases and Southwest Border recoveries. We have also used GIS to assist with Time/Location analysis of the cell phone usage of crime suspects. We will also give an example of how we provided a local community with weapons recovery analysis using GIS showing hotspots and other statistics thereby providing decision support for Law Enforcement efforts. GIS has enabled our department to provide support to ATF field agents, as well as local and state law enforcement which has served to build stronger bonds of partnership and cooperation.
