Abstract

Topographic Feature Data Management Pilot—A Datacentric Approach
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Glenn Guempel, Julia Collins

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency actively participates in GEOINT standards development. These standards address data and the systems that capture, process, exploit, and disseminate GEOINT. The GEOINT Standards Working Group brings the community together to determine standards.
The Topographic Feature Data Management Pilot highlights the results of the standards process and provides a glimpse into how NGA will provide data in the future. TFDM has implemented a profile of the GEOINT Structure Implementation Profile, a community mandated standard and a common method for specifying/encoding geospatial data and geospatial modeling efforts. The use of standardized data content will enable NGA to transform from a product-centric focus to a data-centric focus, promoting interoperability across the community. Data can be served to customers for a variety of uses via standard web services. TFDM uses several community mandated web service standards that enable easier access and use of geospatial information and improved interoperability of technologies.
